BIOGRAPHY
David Cutts is an artist living and working in Kent, UK. David uses found imagery to create
fictional compositions which replicate the abundance of advertising images found in the world
around us.
Growing up in Surrey, David endlessly recreated the images he found in magazines and comic books. David moved to Canterbury to pursue his love of drawing, studying Fine Art at Canterbury Christ Church University and gaining first class honours in his Masters Degree. It was here where David honed his skills to create large scale photorealistic drawings whilst exploring other ways to realise his ideas, including large sculptures constructed from jelly.
Having always been influenced by advertising images, film trailers and cartoons, David drew upon his experiences of photorealistic painting to combine these sources, often piecing together unusual materials to create the work. The brightly coloured imagery of advertising has a significant influence on his work, helping his exploration of how escapism in advertising and entertainment appeals to people’s desire to want more and change their lives in an instant.
